The childfree discussion
You know, after reading http://fifidellabon.diaryland.com/080327_32.html (I'm not sure if this link worked, but maybe it did) I checked out some childfree websites and was left feeling agitated by all the ranting about "breeders" and "selfish parents". There were these horrible comments on this one mother's website after she wrote about childfree people. It seems to me that parents and childfree should never try to communicate their ideals to each other to try and convince the other that they are wrong. They are both right and let's just leave it at that, people! Yes, children can be annoying and yes, they have many government and state programs assigned to them, but what needs to be remembered is that these children are the continuance of our race and therefore a necessity in our world. The other arguement is that the world is too full of people and to bring one more child into it is just courting disaster. I agree that the world's population is out of control, but populations do that until they reach a critical point, when the population crashes. That will happen to us, I'm sure. We just can't be supported when our numbers are too great for our resources. Remember the bubonic plague? The flu epidemics. Nature's culling. I know, that sounds awful, but it's the way it is. It happens with all species, not just us (okay, I have a degree in wildlife biology that I never used and the classes on population sizes still sticks with me after all these years). What I should probably do is not read the childfree blogs anymore, but it's like watching a car wreck, you just can't pull your eyes away. The difference between the child and childfree blogs is that the child blogs don't say bad things about the childfree people. I have never seen this happen unless a CF person happens upon a parenting website and leaves an unnecessary comment. Now, I'm sure there are those parenting blogs out there that bash the CF lifestyle, but I haven't seen them and I spend a lot of time reading blogs. It's just plain mean to ridicule other's beliefs and we should just leave each other alone. Children will continue to come into this world because that's the way nature works. There will also be people continuing not to have children by choice. Yay for them, they're not contributing to the population explosion. I chose to have a child because I wanted to bring a life into this world. Having a child did not ruin my life but give it more meaning. There are moments when I want to pull out my hair, sleep for a week, go to the bathroom by myself, but those moments are over-ridden when I look at my son and he smiles.
