The changeling
I've been thinking lately of the possiblity of becoming an American Sign Language interpreter. The University of Vermont has a great communication sciences degree which included ASL plus some fun classes on language. I LOVE language and how it's all put together and learned. This, of course, is very different from English courses where you learn how to use those words correctly in a sentence, which I mostly never do, but I don't really care much about that! But words! They excite me. Plus it's so amazing to me that we have this inate ability to learn them in any language. Could be a very interesting career change for me. I would love to go back to school. And I absolutely am fascinated with ASL. I have this deaf friend who has been slowly teaching me whenever we get together. Years ago in college I had a years worth of beginning ASL with a group of people and I manage to recall some of what I've learned. It's such a beautiful way to communicate because much of what is conveyed is done so through expression with both face and body. Love it! We shall see. Geoffrey is behind me on this one since we've talked about it a few times. Ah, something fresh to learn. Bodywork is beginning to bog me down. It's a wonderful job, but I really don't foresee myself continuing with it forever. Plus it hurts my body. Hmmmm, change....
